The Group of 13:
History:
Many legends surround the 13.  Their existence may be considered a myth in modern times, but their legacy of darkness is very much real.  They were founded by a group of thieves and marauders prior to the reign of Julius Ceasar.  As the guild grew in numbers, they invoked fear in the hearts of Roman citizens.  They supplied slaves and weapons to warlords in their fight against the Roman Empire.  At the request of the senate, Caesar ordered two of his most trusted warriors to destroy the guild.  Marcus and Lucius were the heroes of the Roman Empire and they vowed to protect Rome against this new threat.  Aware of Caesar’s plan, the guild ordered their top spies to follow Marcus and Lucius.  As they stalked the Roman knights, the spies gathered intelligence that would help the guild in their war against Rome.  Marcus, the more powerful of the two, had anger in his heart and a soul tainted by darkness.  The guild leader knew that if he could turn Marcus against Rome, they would be unbeatable.  The enchantress, Azra, was summoned to place a powerful spell on the Roman.  Azra yearned for a change in leadership, so she accepted his request and easily seduced Marcus .  The Roman warrior became her love slave.  Azra grew fond of her new partner, but yearned for the power he asserted.  With his strength, she could put him in charge, a leader that would follow her every command.  After following Azra’s order to kill the leader of the guild, Marcus surrounded himself with members that were loyal to him and the enchantress.  They eliminated competition loyal to the previous leader and quickly took control of the guild.  Out of his new members, Marcus promoted 12 of the deadliest assassins in his army; they followed and obeyed his direction with loyalty and fear.  Lucius knew what had happened to his friend and tried to reverse the spell.  But he was captured and was put on trial by the guild.  The final test of Marcus's new loyalty to the guild was to kill his best friend and brother-at-arms.  Lucius pleaded with him, but Marcus accepted the battleaxe and removed Lucius's head.  From that moment, he became the Overlord, and the twelve that followed him had baptized their guild as the Group of 13.  The date was Friday, March 13, 44 BC; two days before the assassination of Julius Caesar.  The group grew during the new Christian era and in the Middle Ages.  Many believed they supplied both sides during the Crusades.  It was also rumoured that they caused King George of England to go insane.  This organization bears responsibility for supplying weapons the Nazis used during WWII and funding terrorists in the Middle East.  Their sole mission is to bring chaos from order, to engulf the light, and lead the world to utter darkness and anarchy.  Only one man stands in their way: the Shadow Chaser.
