Review by: “The Resurgence: Chronicles of the Shadow Chaser” by Randal J. Belaire was an
amazing read. I wasn’t sure what to do with it as I read the first few chapters,
mostly because the book transects so many genres. I kept thinking this book
should really be a graphic novel because that’s how it reads. We are introduced
to Arthur Brown, the masked vigilante who’s out for justice. Wow. Belaire’s
narrative reminds me of Tony Isabella who wrote the original Daredevil comics
back in the 70’s. The fight scenes are dynamic and the characters are flawed and
gritty and totally relatable. The more I read, the deeper I was drawn into the
dark, dangerous world Belaire created. I especially love Kevin, the disturbed
adolescent who takes over the hero’s mantle…kind hearted, brave and just a touch
out of his head, like all good heroes should be. He is what Robin could have
been to Batman, if Robin had any spine at all. Also, I would like to see more of
Makoto Tanaka and learn how he and Brown met and get more of a back story on the
master. |
