Lieutenant Ernst Ambler:
Lieutenant
Ernst Ambler served Lanark and Renfrew Scottish Highland Regiment, and the
First Air Defence Regiment of Pembroke with distinction. He has been proud
to carry the Colours {battle Honours} numerous times for the regiment. He
currently serves as a Cadet Instructor Cadre Officer in the Army Cadet Corps
2647 Pembroke Armoury, having been a cadet himself while attending school at
Camp Petawawa, Ontario. His family has a history of having served in the
Army. His father was a Regimental Sergeant Major nicknamed "Ducky" Ambler
-serving with Fourth RCHA, RCR, and RCE for thirty-five years.
Ducky’s father, brother-in-law, and his brother served together in Egypt
during the Suez Crisis in 1956-57 – with the United Nations Emergency Force
Peace-Keeping Mission. Lieutenant Ambler has had the good fortune to have
traveled to England, Germany, Greece, Sweden, Denmark, and Russia during his
military career. The lieutenant attended Carleton University, Ottawa,
Queen's University, and Duncan McArthur Teachers' College, Kingston to
obtain his Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education degrees, and Teachers'
Certificate- specializing in Military History, Religion, Dramatic Arts,
Geography, English, and Latin. While attending Pembroke Collegiate
Institute, he won a History Bursary to assist with his university tuition
fees. Lt. Ambler was recruited to return to the regiment to establish and
run the Armoury Military Museum for five years as Museum Officer and
Curator, working in collaboration with the regimental command and the
Department of National Defence. Later, he transferred to the Air Cadet
Corps. Having become a civilian, Lt. Ambler is now self-employed, and
working in the Ottawa Valley. Recently, Mr. Ambler received his “Canadian
Forces Decoration Medal. The honour is awarded to officers, women, and men
of the Canadian Forces who have completed 12 years of service.
